The Childrens Alliance of Marion County
The idea to create a Christmas CD with performances by all the members of our radio family was first conceived in an effort to raise funds for the children of marion County who might otherwise not have a Christmas Morning that so many of us take for granted every year.
(Larry Wrote this next Part, He’s a bit partial, We know it’s not Sinatras’ Greatest hits but we hope it will bring a smile to your day when you think about the Kids that will benefit from your donation.)
The magical result is 16 songs produced and performed entirely by the staff and management of WOCA.
The CD begins with an awe inspiring performance by Dan Martone of Mel Torme’s “The Christmas Song” (often referred to as “Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire”).
There was no question early on in the project that Dan’s beautiful voice and rendition of this Christmas classic would be a great opening song.
Ed Sanford, the newest member of the WOCA family, blew us away with his music sensibilities and chose “Nothing But A Child” by Steve Earle to fill the second slot.
Perhaps the most memorable recording session was the evening Joe Martone laid down his amazing and powerful baritone vocal to “Mary, Did You Know” (the 9th cut on the album). Joe has an unparalleled bass/baritone voice and his interpretation of this Christmas classic stirs everyone who hears it and continues to generate “chills” from his awesome performance.
Tishia Moeller, who has been an integral part of WOCA since 1977, chose to read the story “Tiny Baby Jesus” to her granddaughter Naomi. The story is written by Dandi Daley Mackall, an author who has appeared on our morning show, AM Ocala Live.
Listening to Tish reading to Naomi will touch your heart and reminds us all of the most important part of Christmas.
