What will the Wisconsin Teachers do when school year is extended?

February 25, 2011 By Dan

I love teachers…I do…my wife is one…my parents were teachers. They all belonged to their local unions. I also get that they feel the need to protest. I also see the governors need to fight this battle, and as I have stated several times this week, as a conservative this is a tough thing for me to get my arms around…as my conservative view points directly oppose what is good for my family if this were to be the same thing happening in Indiana.

With that said. State Law says the students of Wisconsin and most other states have to attend 180 something days of school. When schools close for snowstorms, generally if it is more than two snow days a year they have to make those days up.

What happens to the State and the different towns who then have to run schools deeper into the summer. What about the costs to do this. Say they have to go to the middle of June, or longer. Running airconditioners if they have them is expensive. I am sure that they are still heating schools now even though those that are closed down don’t have students, they have to be heated.

People have asked, should the teachers get paid for these protest days…hell yeah…pay em…but make them teach everyday of school that they are supposed to or fire them for breach of contract.

Its Sad The Democrats Have More Resolve Than The GOP/Tea Party

February 25, 2011 By Dan

Its really sad the Democrats have more resolve when compared to the GOP.

Look at WI. The state capital has been PACKED for more than a week. Its state senators left the state to prevent the legislation from passing. The Democrats are fighting for what they believe in.

Sadly the GOP doesn’t see to have the same energy. Just look at the health care fiasco. One march on D.C. Thats it. Not sustained protests. No meaningful protests at state capitals. No shutting down the government until they got what they wanted.

Sure the GOP is doing it the "right way", but in politics that "right way" loses.

UNIONS….A Lot of it is they DON’T want to LOSE their PERKS!!

February 25, 2011 By Dan

The UFT ( United Federation of teachers recently spent over $1MILLION on a party…ONE PARTY!!

As thousands of Teachers face layoffs.

And there are tons of other wasteful ways the unions squanders their member’s monies..

How does this benefit our children’s education in the least?

http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/…e_layoffs.html

As nearly 5,000 city teachers face the ax, their union shells out millions of dollars on feasting, boozing and partying, the Daily News has learned.

Free-spending United Federation of Teachers brass last year spent nearly $1.4 million for the UFT’s 50th anniversary gala at the Hilton – complete with a movie, a book and a paperweight.

Records show they:

Ponied up $514,000 to 16 separate caterers.
Dropped $278,417 on the annual Teachers Union Day ceremony at the Waldorf-Astoria.
Bought $6,100 in gift baskets from a lower East Side candy store – and plowed $179,000 into training retreats at a Connecticut resort boasting golf, scuba diving and aqua aerobics.
In one amazing feat of spending, they shelled out $114,870 for annual "coffee supplies" at their five offices across the city – paying the Coffee Distributing Corp. on Long Island $324,000 over three years, records show.

And while most New Yorkers spend hours trying to find a parking space, the UFT rents 25 slots in Brooklyn’s Renaissance Plaza Garage for members at an average annual cost of $75,000 over three years.

"I’m not going to apologize for spending money to service our members," said UFT President Michael Mulgrew.

"These people are heroes dedicated to making a difference in the lives of our children. They never get the respect they deserve. A cup of coffee, a bottle of water and a few parking spots is the least we can do for them."

The $284,078-a-year union boss got a little more than coffee when he took the reins in August 2009: The UFT feted him with a $6,400 "Welcome, Michael" party at a Brazilian steakhouse.

Mulgrew describes it as dinner for 130 union members, most of them volunteers, that came to barely $50 a head.

Three months later, the union bid farewell to his predecessor, Randi Weingarten, with a goodbye bash at the Tribeca Grill. Price tag: $8,339. "Mayor Bloomberg came and I tried to get him to pay," Mulgrew said. "Wouldn’t do it."

Drawing from an annual honeypot of $126 million in members’ dues, the union last year flung open the spigots even as it took fire for protecting dismal teachers and fighting reforms.

"These are wasteful, fantastic and outrageous expenditures, and they learned their profligate ways from the government spenders they negotiate with," said Sol Stern, a Manhattan Institute scholar and veteran education advocate

Gingrich: Obama Sparks ‘Constitutional Crisis,’ Raises Impeachment Specter
http://www.newsmax.com/Headline/Ging…2/25/id/387455

Quote:

Gingrich slammed Obama for his decision, telling Newsmax that he is not a “one-person Supreme Court” and his decision sets a “very dangerous precedent” that must not be allowed to stand.

Silence from the LMSM…. but Newt raises a good point.

Once upon a time there was this bank…

February 25, 2011 By Dan

Once upon a time there was a frontier. Small towns were established. They needed a bank. So the general store owner decided he could be the bank. He issued notes good for merchandise good at his store. He keeps the cost of iron constant and all other prices float relative to that.

Then the years pass and some of the townsfolk think the banker is getting rich off of us; let’s Nationalize the bank!

Off they go to the banker and tell him the sad, sad news.

"Okay", he says, lighting his pipe with a burning bill.

"Hey, you’re burning money."

"No I’m not, I am burning an IOU on me."

"But what about the money I gave you yesterday as a deposit in the bank?"

"I burned it. It is still an IOU I owe to you. Goods from my store, the amount currently a number in the bank’s books.

The only way you can Nationalize my bank is to confiscate my store."

And so they did.

Die, medicaid! Die die die!! Arizona leads the way!!

February 25, 2011 By Dan

http://www.azcentral.com/news/articl…l-effects.html

Medicaid was jettisoned by the Arizona Senate Appropriations Committee on an 8-5 vote to end the 30-year-old safety-net program.

I AM LOVING THIS!!

The State of Arizona threw AWAY $7.5 Billion in Federal matching funds because we needed to ‘contribute’ some $2 Billion to get it. Well, IN YOUR FACE, OBAMA ADMINISTRATION!! IN YOUR FACE!!!

We are not going to put up with the damned losers sucking down Government Cheese on our dime anymore, no matter HOW MUCH the Federal Government bribes the State of Arizona to do it.

Arizona is the first State to officially move towards killing Medicaid completely.

Nobody, but nobody deserves getting a service without paying the piper.

The warnings from stupid liberals are dire. "Unemployment would skyrocket", said Medicaid Director Tom Betlach of the cuts.

So what? The $7 Billion they’re employed on came out of my pocket and they’re sucking up to illegal aliens, dope junkies and unwed mothers. They can be unemployed and it won’t be breaking my heart any.

Betlach said "How would we care for these citizens?"

Frankly, Scarlett, I don’t give a damn.

The free ride is over. Nearly a THIRD of Arizona residents are pretending to be poor so that they can ride the gravy train, and the gravy train just got decommissioned.

If you want free government cheese, then the message is clear… get your ass out of Arizona.

Pelosi Say’s; “Adore Me More.” – Out of Control Ego Leads House Democrats.

February 25, 2011 By Dan

One might think Nancy Pelosi would feel grateful when a DNC Committee created a resolution to honor the House Minority Leader and former Speaker of the House.

Not satisfied with the accolades bestowed upon her by the resolution, Pelosi sent her daughter with some “friendly suggestions” to encourage the members to enhance the list of so-called “accomplishments.”

Self-aggrandizing politicians are the last thing we need in Washington, but it seems the Democrat Party is filled with them.

Thank you Pelosi, Reid and Obama

February 25, 2011 By Dan

I would just like to reiterate my gratitude to those three and all you progressives who supported them these past few years. Thank you for bringing about a conservative revolution of the likes we have never seen. Thanks for putting all those conservatives in positions of power from local to federal. We could never have dreamed all these public sector leeches would be brought into the light the way you have done for us, finally.

While the 08 elections looked like a disaster for America, actually it is turning out to be the best thing America could have ever hoped for……to you liberals and progressives, I salute you. You are great Americans after all. 😀

All Providence, RI teachers terminated at the end of the year

February 25, 2011 By Dan

Hey look, now it is bipartisan!

Angel Taveres, the mayor of Providence has decided to send termination letters to every single teacher in the city. Essentially this means their jobs are gone at the end of the year.
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationwo…,6911223.story

Edit to add: The plan was pushed forth by Taveres, though the final decision was made in a 4-3 decision by the school board. Sorry for any confusion.

It doesn’t necessarily mean they are all fired, they will be given the opportunity to reapply for their jobs next year, though likely it does mean that all tenure and senority pay raises will be gone for them and they will be treated as first year teachers.

Nothing like 20 year vets seeing their salaries cut by more than 50%!
